Stockholms Bloodbath

Stockholms bloodbath is a tragic event in Swedish history. It was on the with and ninth of November 1520 when the Danish king Kristian Tyrann (Christian II of Denmark) brutaly killed almost 100 people on the main square In Stockholm’s old town.
The events that lead up to this horrific act of tyrrany was that the Danish king marched with his 20 000 troops through Sweden in the beginning of 1520 towards Stockholm.He was met by resistance from the farmers lead by Sten Sture. Sture was injured quite early in the battle, he died on his slead on the 3rd of February. By May, Christians army had taken over Stockholm and the population gave up on the term that they would be spared. He was named king of Sweden on the 4th of November. To celebrate, he had a party with the religious and noble leaders of Sweden. Three days later the gates were locked and all of the Sture followers were convicted of being guilty of and sentenced to death
The legend says that every year on the night of the eighth of November the ghosts of the slain come out. If it also happens to rain on this night you can see the red stream of blood running down through the cobblestoned streets.
In the beginning of the 17th century a building was constructed, on the square. It is decorated with 92 white squared plattor According to some legends there is one for each slain person that was killed on the square. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly how many people were killed that night, all we know is that 82 people were decapitated according to the executioner's notes.
